Coaching can be described as a collaborative process that empowers individuals to explore their present circumstances, to envision a future that aligns with their personal and professional aspirations and build the necessary mindset, behaviours and action steps to bring the vision to life. 

 

Put another way: Imagine yourself as the architect of your own life. You hold the blueprint, responsible for designing and building the life you desire. Coaching empowers you to make intentional choices, lay strong foundations, and construct a life that aligns with your vision. You’re not just a passive observer; you’re actively shaping your future

 

 

Here are the key points:

 

Focus: Coaches work closely with clients to define meaningful, specific and measurable objectives. These are goal-oriented or performance-driven and serve as a compass for progress.

 

Approach: Rather than providing direct answers, coaches ask thought-provoking questions. They believe clients already hold the answers within themselves. The coach’s role is to guide clients in uncovering these insights and exploring new perspectives. A coach will challenge you, encourage you, be your champion and hold you accountable in your pursuits.

 

Agenda: Each coaching conversation is co-created by both parties. While coaches bring expertise, they don’t have all the answers. Instead, they foster growth-oriented thinking.

A coach is an expert in the process of achieving success, the client is the content expert.

 

Duration: Coaching engagements are typically short-term, concentrating on immediate goals and actionable steps. The length of coaching will vary depending on your circumstances and aspirations.

 

*It is important to distinguish Coaching from Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health support and similar regulated professions. These can be complementary but need to be managed differently. My coaching is based on methodologies grounded in research and proven effectiveness, and my own professional experience.

 

 

I draw on many methodologies depending on the context of the coaching session and the clients specific needs.

 

I have trained in and use the following:

 

 

I may also draw on Mindfulness and Breathwork practices to support behaviour change and in promoting wellbeing.

 

I also use a little intuition to sense what is not being said or expressed and what might be going on below the surface – I use this respectfully and with openness to help deepen awareness and learning.

Either way, my coaching is holistic, taking into account that all aspects of our lives are intertwined.

What happens in a coaching session varies a lot depending on your unique situation and needs.

 

 

All sessions with me are personalised – I do not follow a specific process or flow but rather adapt to what is needed to achieve your desired outcome(s). I am able to do this because of the depth of training and experience I have.

 

 

Let’s explore a typical 12 week coaching package to help you understand the flow.

 

    • In our first session, we will get clear on what is needed and what the desired outcome(s) are, and form an agreement for the coaching (this can of course change over time)
    • In the next 1-2 sessions we will start to understand your current reality and build awareness of challenges, blockers and any limiting beliefs.
    • Next we will typically look at generating awareness of Identity and Mindset and start to shift these. (we might spend a few sessions here)
    • We will look at establishing good habits and behaviours and consider additional resources that will support our desired outcome(s).
    • Throughout, we will continually monitor progress and adjust to ensure we are on track – we can always re-contract if your agenda shifts with new awareness.
    • In the closing sessions, we will establish Strategies for sustaining new habits, behaviours and continued progress to ensure you get lasting results.

 

The focus may be on a specific outcome(s) or simply progress (from an established baseline) – you bring the agenda and I’ll help you figure out how to get there.

Either way, my coaching is holistic, taking into account that all aspects of our lives are intertwined.

I hear you, the world seems to be filled with people offering coaching and they all claim to get you results!…

To make things a little trickier, the coaching industry is currently self-regulated so there’s a lot of “certifications ” but not are all created equal.

 

 

Here’s some pointers to help you:

 

 

    • Do your research and check a coach has relevant qualifications/credentials and experience. ICF, EMCC, IAC are all global certifying bodies that are generally well regarded. Choosing a Coach with valid credentials from these bodies is a good start. 
    • Coaching typically requires us to do deep personal work and in doing so we can be vulnerable. I believe the foundation of successful coaching is a good coach-client relationship built on trust and mutual respect. Look for someone you feel you can be honest and open with and feel heard and supported by – trust your gut feeling on this. 
    • Having a Consultation or Discovery Call with a prospective coach is a good way to get a sense of whether you are a good “fit” for each other.  Ask them about their process and results.
    • Coaches offer services in specialised fields or niches, pick one that aligns with your needs and goals.
    • You might be tempted to choose a coach based on pricing – generally in life you get what you pay for, right, the same tends to be true in coaching. Coaching can be a big investment and if you want to make significant and lasting changes in you life, don’t settle for a “quick-fix” solution. Successful Coaches will generally price according to the results they are confident they can deliver. Make sure you are comfortable and are ready to fully commit to get the best results, the returns on the investment are guaranteed (almost – you also have to put in the work)!
